April 22nd is Earth Day and Pure Naples maintains a constant awareness of our earth – primarily our local waterways and habitat. In an effort to make our tourists and seasonal and permanent residents keep this responsibility in mind, Pure Naples has a special Eco Tour aboard M/V Naples Explorer so show just how wonderful our “little bit of paradise” is and how to keep it that way. This tour is a 3 hour tour showing the mangrove system that makes up the northern Ten Thousand Islands. Our certified Naturalist on board will tell you just what the Gordon River and its estuaries is all about from under the water to flying high over it. It is a great nature tour and opportunity to observe the American Bald Eagle, wild boar, deer and of course our dolphin that reside in their natural habitat.
Shelling is another interesting part of the Eco Tour and again our Naturalist will be along side you as you explore Keewaydin Island and find the many different types of shells that end up on the beach there. Find out what lives in what shell and why there are so many that come up there. We even provide the kids with a Scavenger Hunt Sheet to see just what they can find along the way.
If Sightseeing is more to your interest, join the M/V Double Sunshine for the 1.5 hour Sightseeing or Sunset Cruise for our most popular tour. See the homes of Naples Bay, families of dolphin and other local wildlife. Find out just how the area was developed to create this mecca of residential waterways. Believe it or not, this area was all mangroves at one time long ago. You will learn just what it took for pioneers of real estate to make it what it is today and why it will remain just as it is.
Another top option for learning about the ecology of our area is to hop on one of our Jet Skis and explore. Head down the Gordon River and into the ‘nooks and crannies’ of the waterways. Either with a guide or “go it alone” to see it all for yourself.
